Pariah Dog, Calcutta
I realise this is an invitation for a good old slagging off...

Pariah Dog is a documentary film about Calcutta's street dogs, of which there are over 100,000. It was made by an American fellow called Jesse Alk who has been struggling like anything for the last few years to get the film finished.

On Friday, it won Best Feature in a documentary film festival in the States.

If you've been to India, you'll recognise these dogs from any city, town or village. Sometimes they don't look very nice - they are often mangy, can be aggressive and carry rabies. Their reputation is not good. But they are fantastic animals. In the right hands, they are as loving and loyal as any other kind of dog.

Here's the trailer: https://vimeo.com/316360791?fbclid=IwAR1jE6BQpuh43jPvF9kn1GZHqwyo1Qp0gFMC4MSL8dbnox5lrDlJQ71jB2U

Re: Pariah Dog, Calcutta
Any third world country has a shit load of stray dogs .

1000s it seemed in Bali . Sri Lanka wasn’t to far behind .

Never really noticed loads in India , just the odd few.

A hard problem to look at

And not just a Third World one.

Another documentary from near where I lived in the States.

We had it at home, but to a lesser degree than the Navajo Rez.

Dogs are disgusting, dirty creatures. The only thing worse is their owners who let them lick their faces.

I saw a dog like that one in the video, broken spine in Cambodia. He seemed alright, getting by dragging himself about. Absolutely haunting, mind. I care as much for dogs as I do humans.

"Dogs are disgusting, dirty creatures"

I think you got mixed up there and meant to say "Humans are disgusting, dirty creatures"

Sounds fabulous. Where may one adopt one of these rabid, snarling, mangy, fly-blown and flea ridden dogs? Sounds like the perfect addition to a family.

A lot of times I wish we had never domesticated dogs.

But that probably comes from seeing so many of mine and other people's die or dead when I was quite young.

I can bring one for you, should you wish? Would you prefer male or female, rabid or not?

Re: Pariah Dog, Calcutta
Kind of you, Coffee, but I much prefer cats. I'm sure my cat lady status comes as a bit of a surprise, but there it is.

My grandad would have sorted this issue out with a bucket of water and his trusty shotgun.

He was a killing machine for strays.

Looks like a good film that, cheers Coffee.

Any human who doesn't like dogs, is at the vey least a bit weird or ignorant. The realationship between our species, and the influence they've had on our evolution is mind-blowing.

Now cats, on the other hand........

Re: Pariah Dog, Calcutta
That's not fair on cats.

They used to steal our children and eat them.

We had to evolve to sort them out.

Re: Pariah Dog, Calcutta
We have both.

Dogs - gormless needy circus acts - Her kind of pet.

Cats - wonderfully independent with an occasional glare which simply says 'feed me, you inadequate cunt' - My kind of pet.
